The two words are used interchangeably by most buyers, and they are not the same class of vehicle.
You do not have to classify it correctly before you call. The class is confirmed when the vehicle is seen, and the same four factors apply either way.

A junk vehicle is an end-of-life vehicle. It has reached the point where you are no longer repairing it, but it still holds parts as well as metal, and both are valued.
A metal-value-only vehicle is one where the parts are gone or beyond recovery, so the metal is what remains to value.
A junk vehicle is valued on the same four factors as any other: its weight, the scrap-metal market price, the salvageable parts still on it, and its year, make and condition.
An intact car is worth more than a stripped one of the same model. A vehicle you stopped driving with its parts still fitted is an intact car.
The firm number comes from seeing the vehicle rather than from a phone description. For the method in full, see what your car is worth.
